Butz-Choquin

In 1875, at the moment when the third republic was born, Lucien Regad founded his company. The company's specialty at the time was Swiss, Tyrolean and German pipes. In 1888 Arthur Berrod, aged 12, joined Lucien's business; he entrusted him with responsibility for the factory when he was absent to visit customers. This collaboration was to become even closer from 1903, the year Arthur Berrod married Therese Regad. It was still a modest family business, but which was already establishing itself on the market for the quality of its production. In 1914, first the death of Lucien Regad and then the war blocked this evolution. In 1919 Arthur Berrod took over management of the business and the firm became the A. Berrod-Regad Company. Upon the death of Artur Berrod in 1954, it was his son Jean who took over the management of the company, until 1969 when his brother Claude Berrod took his place as President of the board of directors of the Berrod-Regard company and as agent of the Company des Pipes Butz-Choquin. In 1951 Jean and Claude Berrod purchased the Societe des Pipes Butz-Choquin. this brand already had a long history. She was born in 1858. Gustav Butz and his father-in-law Mr. Choquin had founded a workshop in Metz that year for the manufacture and sale of the Butz-Choquin pipe. At the end of the 19th century the company moved its headquarters to Paris, then in 1902, Mrs. Butz-Choquin sold her business to the Clermont-Ferrand company which exploited the brand until 1912. The deal was then taken over by a wholesaler from Valence who sold it in 1951 to Jean and Claude Berrod. Butz-Choquin now becomes the pilot brand under which the quality Berrod-Regad manufacturing models will be marketed. The company never ceased to affirm its family character with the entry in 1956 of Jacques, son of Jean Berrod, and in 1969 of Jean-Paul, son of Claude Berrod. In addition to producing standard pipes, the company also creates free-form models made by hand.
